Much better seats, telescoping wheel, +25hp (17% bump in power), slight torque figure increase, raised redline. Imma let you finish Subaru, but THIS is how you do a mid-cycle refresh.

Bonus DOTS. What is this gorgeous thing with the HORCRUX plate?

Rear engine, RWD, air-cooled awesomeness courtesy of Chevrolet!!
Corvairs are cool cars.

They really are. Sounded good too.
Are these as insanely spendy as all the other domestic muscle from that Era?

Nope - Autotrader classic lists all kinds of 1st gen coupes under $10k (many under $5k), and convertibles will crack the teens if they’re very nice. A little more $ for a 4-speed car, but unless it’s a factory turbo car, you’re not getting above $20k, I don’t think.
But parts are available fairly readily.

Sweet, this is a better Miata now.
...
I’m not giving up the NB2 anytime soon. I’m still planning my V6 swap but I need to test drive a Camaro V6 to see if I’m going to like the throttle response (or lack of) if it’s an electronic throttle body. Otherwise, I’m thinking Ford/Mazda/Jag V6 so I can make my own M2-1006 NB2.

And yeah, the noises are from an air-cooled flat 6 engine, so they’re pretty nice to listen to, too.

Huh. Well that certainly makes things a lot more appealing

I remember when my grandfather was upset at the loss of 8 track players in the car.

LFX! LFX! LFX!
I wish I had a good source for ‘em. I’d love to have the engine and hold onto it for awhile before starting the eventual swap

They have their weak links - oil leaks and a crazy-ass belt routing to name a couple, but they’re cheap, fun, and easy to work on/get parts for. Find a 4-speed, the 2-speed PG sucks all the fun away.

4 speed coupe seems like the way to go. What does PG stand for here?

Bonus points if you can get Ralph Nader to sign both the car and a copy of unsafe at any speed which you are required to keep in the glove box. Gotta get custom tags that say “UNSAFE” as well.

I’ll see if I can flip it, too

Powerglide - 2 speed automatic transmission. The car will be a lot slower with that, of course.

Have Ralph painted on the roof and Nader on the bottom so as you roll...

From a magazine cover that I saw at the Oppo meet a few weeks ago - note the license plate!

I have a source, the local Spec Miata shop has built a 276 whp LFX-powered MSM for track days. I’m not unsure if I want a LFX swap because I don’t particularly like driving manual cars with electronic TBs after pop’s ‘08 Mustang GT.

A dual mass flywheel has been added. Hello rev hang, good-bye responsive-ness.

Nothing will replace an in dash CD player.
Now get off my lawn.

Power glide

Not likely. I highly doubt Mazda of all people will sacrifice responsiveness in the name of a slight power bump. Duel mass flywheel doesn’t have to mean wrx-like rev hang

We should get an NE in... Oh. 5 years?
![]() 04/09/2018 at 21:39 |
|
When did the ND come out, couldn’t have been more than 2-3 years ago right? I bet it’ll get one more update in 3-4yr then another 2-3 before the NE (which in this day and age, I wonder if there will be an NE - might be a crossover).
![]() 04/09/2018 at 21:45 |

I believe in Mazda.
Yeah its still probably a ways off... Have you driven an Abarth yet?
![]() 04/09/2018 at 21:54 |

I sure hope so, they seem like one of the few who still care about the experience of driving. Hopefully sales keep up so they’re inclined to make the next generation.
I’ve yet to drive a 124. I did sit in one a long time ago and liked it, but that’s not much. It’s been miserably cold and snowy here so I haven’t even attempted to go check one out. I have doubts they’ll have an Abarth to test drive, but I know they at least have 124s. I do wonder how much longer they will be around - I’ve still never seen a 124 on the road; I’ve seen a couple NDs.
![]() 04/09/2018 at 21:59 |

I’m curious how much a difference the 124 and Abarth are in driving dynamics. Doesn’t the turbo motor add... What. 5hp?
![]() 04/09/2018 at 22:01 |
|
I believe it’s the same engine between the two, but a different tune and maybe exhaust? Most of the difference is in the suspension which is less “comfortable touring” and more “sports car” from what I’ve heard. Plus, turbo noises.
![]() 04/09/2018 at 23:08 |
|
They are heavier and usually do. Think about it, 1 package comes with an LSD. Rough cars don’t sell anymore, Mazda themselves have already said this. I can see them doing it.

The current one isn’t even in dash . Its there, but its not convenient.

Nope, the Fiat gets the 1.4t

I’m hoping the Club gets the suspension setup from the RF or the Abarth.
![]() 04/10/2018 at 12:09 |

No I mean between the 124 and the 124 abarth it’s the same turbo fiat engine

I wish they would do a hydraulic steering option. That damn EPS is the only thing I didnt like about the ND. Perhaps an easy way to just disable it entirely and go manual steering. EPS is not really the issue I guess, it could be done where you get a knob that goes from fully off to fully on and let you set it just to your liking. But yeah either way, when my NB gets crashed into some day and I have to replace it, Id definitely want to find a nice used ND2.
